What is Taekwondo?.
Taekwondo is the Korean Martial Art of Self-Defence. It has a 2000 year history and today has developed into the most widely practised Martial Art in the world and is an Olympic Sport. Translated, Taekwondo means, the art of ‘striking with fists and feet’. But it actually has more meaning that just that. It is a system of self-defence, a modern sport and a way in which the student no matter what their level can live a healthy life. Through Taekwondo training students also gain greater self-respect, self-confidence and respect others.
About Auckland Taekwondo
Auckland Taekwondo had its beginnings back in 1997 when Master Matt Ransom first opened a club in Pakuranga. Not long after that he also began teaching at the Parnell Club becoming its Master Instructor. Shortly after that both clubs operated under the one banner as Auckland Taekwondo (ATKD). Over time ATKD started winning best fighting team awards at the Union’s National Club Championships and North Island Club Championships and at various Invitational Tournaments. ATKD has grown into one of New Zealand’s longest established and most successful clubs. It has produced many top international New Zealand team representatives and national champions. ATKD also hosts on a regular basis international players, master-instructors and top coaches. A number of current top seeded athletes as well as NZ representatives are existing members of Auckland Taekwondo.
Learning Taekwondo with ATKD
Auckland Taekwondo offers a safe and proper martial arts training environment for children, teenagers, adults, and families. We have a great group of internationally experienced Senior Instructors and Masters with many years experience at all levels to oversee the development of all members.
We are constantly striving for excellence through the correct practise of Taekwondo. We take a no-nonsense, no frills approach to our training. We cater for all age groups from age 7 through to people over 50. We hold specialised traditional training for all grades and advanced elite sport-training for our athletes and NZ Team representatives. We also emphasise the importance of doing one’s best in every endeavour, no matter what your age or level of ability.
We believe in mixing the traditional side of Taekwondo with the new and keeping the balance. Proper conduct and traditional etiquette are the foundation of all practices in our Dojangs. This way our members gain a more holistic view of the martial art and sport of Taekwondo and continue developing themselves. We offer national and internationally recognised grading certification through the Union, Taekwondo New Zealand, World Taekwondo Federation and World Kukkiwon Headquarters.
Our Senior-Instructors and Masters are also actively involved in working with both Taekwondo New Zealand and the Union at all levels in order to keep our members right up to date with all developments and opportunities.
For real martial art training, real Taekwondo training and for real progress and self-achievement, Auckland Taekwondo will provide you with the means to make it happen!
