Michael Burk (Mike) is a Senior Instructor at Auckland Taekwondo and is a WTF International Referee and an Oceania Taekwondo Union RefereeHe is real testament to the fact that age is no barrier to learning and enjoying Taekwondo.

Mike took up Taekwondo after a suggestion from friends. He started with Auckland Taekwondo and went on to gain his 1st Dan black belt in August 2001. Now a 3rd Dan and Senior Instructor, Mike is one of New Zealand's longest serving referees. He continues to train regularly alongside other much younger athletes and teaches the General Class at our Pakuranga location.

Starting Taekwondo was one of the best things Mike says he has done and he emphasises “it's the intense physical nature of the training at ATKD which attracts me. It is a great stress release and also keeps me in reasonable shape. Taekwondo training really helps keep the weight down and it keeps me sharp.” He is also one of New Zealand's senior most experienced referee's and regularly officiates at events around the country including conducting seminars on refereeing and judging.
